Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails

This had long been a favorite mountain bike ride of mine and now its one of my favorite Jeep rides also. I have only been once in our stock Jeep Wrangler with a friend who has a slightly modified older Jeep. I am not quite comfortable enough to go alone, I needed a spotter in a few points. The main obstacle is the Three Fingers and I took the easier of the three. The way down wasn't too difficult, I was a little nervous about scraping the side of the Jeep if I didn't get the wheels placed right but it went fine. Going back up that way I had a little more challenge, getting some wheel slip toward the top. More aggressive tires would be helpful. There is one other steep downhill section on the way out that is loose dirt so on the way back out I had to re-approach a few dips to get traction again. Overall, lots of fun, usually a more difficult and an easier path around obstacles so you can learn as you go and take challenges as my friend did who has gone many times. That keeps it interesting for a long time.
This is 3rd trip little rough this time stock Rover and jeep made it ok no problems good run. Ed see pics
We did a 4x4 trip to the falls, the upper loop, and Three Tanks. The trail is rougher than I have ever experienced, but still only moderately difficult to the experienced driver. There were lots of icicles the falls and water in almost all streams and washes. This will always be a favorite place to go. One concern, though, was the trash. There was more than I have ever seen, and Ii am concerned that if users are not more conscientious, we will lose access to the trails.
I have driven the length of this trail numerous times in my stock '07 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The trial itself is great fun - technical enough to be entertaining to an experienced driver in a capable rig, but not out of reach of the careful offroading newcomer in a stock truck. There are many optional obstacles along the way that can provide a good challenge for anyone. The trail is probably the most popular in the area and you will see other folks there on the weekends.
