Great day trip! The road to the murals is pretty bad right now so dont even try to take a car only high clearance truck 4x4 recommended! While there see the old cemetary and jail. stop by the little convience store on main road coming into town they have free maps and the guy will give ya tips! Make sure you fill up on gasoline in Kingman or Golden Valley as no gas is in chloride. Also no fast food or such so bring what you need or pay big bucks for a soda!!! Enjoy the scenery! Joe
This was a very enjoyable ride. After you pass the murals it gets very rocky. Impossible for a 2 wheel drive, but my Dodge 3500 Dually had no problems with it.
You will pick up some scratches from bushes and the like, but that is what a 4x4 is for!
According to my GPS, we climbed about 4,000 feet in about 8 miles. Winding around the old silver mines, we spotted an old car from what I would guess to be the 40's down one cliffs... I guess they didn't have the equipment to recover one in that terrain back then. Unfortunately, I didn't record it's coordinates.
After you pass the radio transmitters at the top, you only have 13 miles of Mercedes quality road to get back to 93.
The views from the top are nothing short of spectacular. There are a couple of nice recreation areas at the top which we plan to camp at next time.
All in all a very pleasant trip!
