This highlight-reel hike is at Savage Gulf State Natural Area, one of the Southeast’s finest hiking destinations. First, head out to the wide outcrop of the Great Stone Door Overlook, then cut through the Stone Door, a crack in a cliffline allowing access to Big Creek Gulf. From there, descend through verdant woodlands to Big Creek, finally reaching its tributary Ranger Creek. Here, you will find a curtain-type waterfall dropping off a stone lip only to disappear in a sink! Your return trip will yield more observations of geological wonderment.
