This roadside spiller has been a Volunteer State attraction for over two centuries. Protected as a state natural area, it is but a short walk to this 110-foot cataract as it dives off a rock rim into a deep rock cathedral. On the way to its base, visit the Gamblers Den, an outdoor betting parlor from days gone by. The falls became a stopping point for travelers as well as a gathering place for bettors. A small rockhouse adjacent to the falls is still known as the Gamblers Den. Imagine men hunkered down by candlelight playing cards and rolling dice, wagering their dollars and cents while Ozone Falls rumbled in the yon.The state of Tennessee recognized this aquatic wonder, making it a state natural area in 1973.
