I've done this trail on a bike several times. The trail is actually 12 miles long and is a railroad rack turned into a trail, crushed limestone. the trail goes from Valpraiso to Brainard and is gradual uphill in that direction most of the way. There are several bridges that make the trip worth it. You also go through the town of Loma which was where "To Wong Fu" was filmed. I would not do this as a hike as it would be a bit boring, but definately as a bike ride. There is parking at either Brainard or Valpraiso. If you look at mapquest the railroad line still showes up, which is now the trail.
