The Row River Trail is a popular, 16-mile biking, hiking, and running path that begins in downtown Cottage Grove, skirts the edge of beautiful Dorena Lake, and then follows the Row River. The path, built in 1994, is part of the Rails to Trails program, in which abandoned railroad tracks are removed and the route is turned into a hiking trail.
Before it was torn up, this particular railroad track was featured in the film Stand by Me. This hike describes 2.7 miles of the Row River Trail, from the highway crossing, past Dorena Dam, and along Dorena Lake to Harms County Park. Readers, of course, are free to hike not only the described section but any or all of the remainder of the trail.
