Contrary to the lore of the Wild West, Reno’s Hole in the Wall is not an outlaw hideout. This is literally a hole in a rock wall: a narrow tunnel gushing snowmelt into Steamboat Ditch. The route to the hole begins alongside the cooling flow of the Truckee River, then climbs to an easy walk along the ditch with views in all directions. Linking the Truckee River Parkway, the Tom Cooke Trail, and the Steamboat Ditch Trail offers a snapshot tour of the area’s premier riparian corridor, a long exploration of the scenic high desert landscapes of the lower Carson Range, and vistas of Peavine Peak and the Truckee Meadows.

From Mayberry Park there is a steep climb to the trail. Mostly level to Hole in the Wall. Another steep climb if you decide to view the cement Airmail Arrow. Little shade. Worth the hike. Great views.
