This 97-mile drive passes through the heart of coal country in southern West Virginia. You’ll see the ornate mansions of the mine owners and row after row of miners’ houses.
You’ll also see company stores, mines, coal tipples, huge railroad yards, and narrow stream valleys. The drive is entirely on two-lane, paved roads that are often used by coal trucks.
