Twenty miles of the state’s original Pacific Highway, half of it cutting a straight line through Skagit Valley farmlands and half clinging precariously to bayside cliffs. This drive has been called the Wizard’s path through Oz, Washington’s Big Sur, and a landmark coastal drive. Much of it hugs the cliffs over Chuckanut and Samish bays, before it straightens out to cross the rich delta farmlands of Skagit Valley. Visitors linger to watch the ever-changing seascape from high above the shoreline, hope for a sunset, and take advantage of the drive whenever they are in the neighborhood. Caution: Chuckanut Drive is a narrow highway built to 1920s standards. RVs of all sizes can navigate safely if drivers are not in a hurry and yield to bicyclists and other motorists. Special attractions: Fossils, including palm fronds, are visible in exposed Chuckanut sandstone, Fairhaven Rose Test Gardens, Fairhaven Park, Taylor United Samish Bay Shellfish Farm, Larrabee State Park. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more.

It was nice. A bit hard to see the coast from the road but when we pulled off at the designated stops the view was beautiful.
