Scenic Driving Utah
by Joe Bensen revised and updated by Christy Karras (Falcon Guides)
Starting in one of the state’s prettiest farming/ranching valleys, this drive quickly enters classic Utah canyon country, highlighted by the many scenic attractions of the Waterpocket Fold. It is approximately 75 miles along UT 24 from Loa to Hanksville. This entire scenic drive, including the 25-mile Capitol Reef National Park Scenic Drive, can be done in four hours. Plan on a full day, allowing at least half a day to poke around Capitol Reef, and longer if the park grabs your interest. Several excellent sidetrips might extend this drive even longer. Special attractions: Attractive agricultural communities along the Fremont River, Capitol Reef National Park, views of the Henry Mountains, and outstanding geological formations.
Nearby attractions: Fishlake Scenic Byway, Escalante-Torrey Scenic Byway, Notom Scenic Backway, Cathedral Valley Scenic Backway, and Goblin Valley State Park. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more.
