A 57-mile drive traveling from Winona south through rugged hills with large springs and the Eleven Point River to Grand Gulf and Mammoth Spring. When people first laid out the highway here, it seems as though they tried to connect the road “between the dots,” which, in this case, are large springs. Beginning in the north and heading south, the route goes by Montauk Spring, Welch Spring, Round Spring, Alley Spring, Blue Spring, Greer Spring, and Mammoth Spring, which are all within 10 miles of the highway.
Special attractions: Falling Spring, Turner Mill, McCormack Lake Recreation Area, Greer Spring, Eleven Point River, Grand Gulf and Mammoth Spring state parks, Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery, Spring River, Dam 3 Access, Mark Twain National Forest, and the Ozark Trail; canoeing, swimming, hiking, fall colors, spring flowers, fishing, camping, and hunting. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more.
