This 147-mile drive begins seemingly in the middle of nowhere. It heads north through scrubland along the eastern fringe of Fort Peck Lake, then crosses the Milk River a half-dozen times on the way to Malta. It is a wonder how pioneers ever managed to cross this part of the state, so deeply gouged with bluffs and coulees. Special attractions: Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge, Fort Peck Dam and Lake, Pioneer Museum, Sleeping Buffalo Hot Springs, Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge; summer theater; camping, fishing, boating, swimming, and wildlife viewing.
