A 78-mile Type I drive through a scenic sandstone canyon and over high plateaus between Wellington and Myton in central Utah. The 78-mile-long Nine Mile Canyon Back Country Byway climbs over the Book and Roan Cliffs and winds along the floor of a spectacular sandstone canyon past galleries of rock art left by Native American artists more than 1,000 years ago. The canyon is one of the Southwest’s premier locations for rock art. The byway turns north up Gate Canyon from Nine Mile Canyon, and follows Wells Draw down to near Myton. It also follows the historic Price to Myton Road built by the U.S. Army’s 9th Cavalry in 1886.
