National Forest Scenic Byways East & South

This is one of my favorite scenic drives, especially during late spring. Through much of the trip the sunlight is so blocked that you may want to turn your headlights on! And when the views open up, it is a real treat. There is a lovely waterfall right next to the road, and several more waterfalls all within a short hike's distance. Also, access to floating on the lovely Wild and Scenic Mulberry River, and several campgrounds to choose from (I suggest Redding, but even if you don't stay there, the drive out to it can't be beat!) And if you are in the area just wasting time, I suggest a drive up to White Rock Mountain (11 miles down a dirt road).
