A challenging climb leads to a ridgetop ramble that offers expansive views west over San Francisco Bay and east to Mount Diablo and beyond. This one climbs straight up and straight down, but what lies between is superlative.
The top of Rocky Ridge, like so many of the high points in the East Bay, encompasses panoramic vistas across San Francisco Bay, south along the peninsula to the rolling hills of the South Bay, around east to Mount Diablo and the Sacramento River delta, and north to Mount Tamalpais and its environs. Not for the weak of knee, lung, or resolve, those willing and able to take on the challenge of the climb and descent will find the strenuousness mitigated by the wildflower displays on the ridge’s grassy slopes.
