A gently rolling tour of the Westport River along both banks, the Westport River Ramble is an easy, enjoyable ride. Follow the river out to the ocean and back, enjoying scenery that includes vineyards, causeways, and stunning views of Buzzards Bay. The ride never leaves Westport’s boundaries and explores all that the town has to offer. Start: Tennis courts behind Westport Middle Terrain: Gently rolling, with one tough hill. Length: 20.4 miles. Ride time: 1.5 hours. Getting there: From State Route 24, head east on Interstate 195 for 2 miles to State Route 88 South. Go 3.5 miles and turn left onto Old County Road at second traffic light. Travel 0.6 mile to school on left. The Westport River Ramble is a gently rolling landscape of little-traveled country roads winding past snug, cedar-shingled homes with trim picket fences, flawless lawns, and broad meadows sloping gently down to wide tidal rivers and salt marshes.
