Stecoah Gap is a cove forest at an elevation of 3,200 feet. The forest understory is mostly ephemeral herbs and wildflowers. In late April or early May, this area can produce a list that includes a large variety of warblers including Golden-winged, Cerulean, and Worm-eating Warblers. Scarlet Tanagers, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings, and Wood Thrushes are present. Habitat: Cove forest. Key birds: Summer: Golden-winged, Cerulean, Black-throated Green, Worm-eating, Kentucky, Black-throated Blue, Blackburnian, Hooded, and Chestnut-sided Warbler; American Redstart; Scarlet Tanager; Rose-breasted Grosbeak; Indigo Bunting. Year-round: Ruffed Grouse.
