Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve is a State Nature Preserve operated by the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation. The preserve consists of 900 acres on three separate tracts of land. Habitats: Longleaf pine and scrub oak, mixed pine-hardwood, small stream and bottomland hardwoods, stream-head pocosins. Key birds: Summer: Chuck-will’s-widow; Great Crested Flycatcher; Kentucky and Hooded Warbler; Bachman’s Sparrow; Summer Tanager; Blue Grosbeak. Winter: Pine Siskin. Year-round: Red-headed and Red-cockaded Woodpecker; Brown-headed Nuthatch.
