It's fitting that this ride starts at Michigan State University's Livestock Pavilion, since MSU is the nation's first ?Moo U,? or land-grant institution. Opened in 1857 as the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan, it served as the prototype for seventy-two agricultural research colleges later chartered under federal legislation. These roots are evident on the beginning of the ride, as you pass by buildings dedicated to the research of swine, dairy cattle, and plant pathology, to name a few. The ride then meanders through the farm country of Ingham County and passes through two villages. In football and basketball the MSU Spartans have earned their way to the top, appearing in the Rose Bowl and the Final Four, respectively. But there's no doubt that Michigan State remains the heart and soul of agriculture in Michigan. Terrain: Flat to rolling. More hills in the southern part of the ride, around Dansville.

Nice route through some very pretty farmland. About 25% low rolling hills - the rest is fairly flat. Very little traffic on the rural roads. The two little towns are cute and provide a nice place to stop and take a break.
