Migrant Indian tribes led by Chief Okemos called this area ?Big Rocks. White settlers weren't much more original, naming the town for the ancient sandstone ledges along the Grand River. This is an excellent ride for riders accustomed to bike trails who want to try road riding or for experienced road riders looking for a low-traffic, relaxed ride. One of Michigan's best-known attractions is the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, the sheer, striated rock cliffs along Lake Superior's southern shore, near Munising. I think the Grand Ledge ledges are a scaled-down but more accessible version of the Pictured Rocks. They're popular with rock climbers, but the climbing is concentrated at a different park. Fitzgerald Park offers a peaceful trail that wends its way between the ledges and the Grand River. I suggest visiting them before setting off on the ride. Terrain: Flat to gently rolling on the more southern roads.

It was a pleasant ride through nice farmland. Pretty flat and few curves. Grand Ledge is a pretty town with several parks and a nice place to start/finish. Traffic outside of town was very light and the roads were good except for one section under construction.
