The cove carved into Lake Huron, the sister cities along its shore, the point where protected bay meets open water, and the lighthouse that sits on it all take their name from a former Indian chief, O-ta-was. Today, from a bike seat, you can still appreciate some of the things that must have given O-ta-was great pride: clear water, sandy beaches, cool woods, and fertile fields inland. The ride starts at Tawas Point State Park, a particularly popular spot in the spring, when birdwatchers converge on what's considered a ?migration trap.? From there the 26 miles takes you along shoreline, through neighborhoods and farm country, and to downtown East Tawas. Terrain: Relatively flat.
