This ride is a microcosm of everything that northern Michigan has to offer. I n the 26 miles you'll see beautiful lakeshore, two Lake Michigan lighthouses, and a garden center that is a riot of color. You'll pass through a sleepy village perfectly positioned for lunch and a swim. All this on roads that are fairly level and relatively lightly traveled. There's only one traffic light in all of Benzie County, and it's not on this ride.
Start in Frankfort. Sunsets are an event here at the harbor, where the lighthouse beckons at the end of a long breakwall, but save that for after the ride. Terrain: A few rollers in the first couple miles, then flat. Ends on a 9-mile stretch of bike path, 2 miles of which are gravel.
