Your destination for this ride is the village of DeTour. Upon arrival, it really will feel like you?ve detoured. Though only an hour away from Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island, the epicenter for summer crowds up north, fudge shop?free DeTour, whose chamber of commerce brochure notes the seasons for pike, walleye, bass, salmon, and perch fishing, feels completely different. To reach the hamlet at the extreme eastern end of the U.P., you?ll ride along an excellent road paralleling Lake Huron and the Les Cheneaux Islands. You?ll loop back inland after DeTour and then ride back along the Lake Huron stretch again. More people must travel by water than by land in the eastern U.P., as light as the traffic is. That makes for wonderful biking, however, and you?ll have a good view of the region's waterways from the bike seat, too. Terrain: Flat to gently rolling, a hill or two coming out of DeTour Village.

Beautiful views of Lake Huron for miles along this road. Traffic is very low volume, and the ride overall is highly bike friendly. Few services on the road outside of De Tour village.
