Rarely is a birding area extremely productive of species, yet charming and scenic at the same time. Frontenac State Park is such a place, and it is well known to Minnesota birders. Perched on a point of the Mississippi River’s Lake Pepin, Frontenac seems to have had a siren’s charm since the earliest times. Key birds: Bald Eagle (late fall, late winter), Turkey Vulture, migrating hawks (fall), Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, migrating warblers (May), Prothonotary and Cerulean Warblers (nesting). Don’t miss: In-Yan-Teopa overlook. This eTrail provides information on birding strategies for this location, birds you might see, directions to each birding spot, and helpful maps.
