Juntura Hot Springs is a secluded hot springs pool located in the center of an island in the Malheur River, often too hot for comfortable soaking. The winter months may be the best time to visit Juntura Hot Springs. The summertime temperature in the soaking pools can easily exceed 110 degrees F, but on a cold winter day the hot-water soak is more tolerable.
It's also essential to visit the hot springs when the water level in the Malheur River is low. The crossing between the riverbank and the island can be treacherous when the river is high from spring runoff. The autumn months feature beautiful fall colors along the river, but the hot springs are often overrun with hunters who use the hot springs and surrounding area as their camping base.
