Located in Bear Valley Village, Bear Valley Cross-country & Adventure Company (BVCC) offers 45 miles of groomed trails and an ample opportunity for off-piste ski touring. Owner Paul Petersen has developed a wide variety of trails at the resort, all groomed for skate-skiing and double-tracked for touring. Strategically located trailside warming huts offer a place to relax, rehydrate, and enjoy views that may otherwise escape you while skiing within the tracks. Additionally, the BVCC shop provides a great cache of rental gear for all types of cross-country skiers. With trail passes costing a mere $17, it’s an inexpensive aerobic change from gravity-fed alpine skiing. If cross-country isn’t your bag, consider renting snowshoes from BVCC for alternate backcountry entertainment. For those who have never cross-country skied before, remember this rule of thumb: if you can walk, you can cross-country ski. Over the river and through the woods is the bottom line at Bear Valley Cross-Country. The only Nordic trail system in California plotted on natural paths through old-growth forests of red fir, aspen, Jeffrey and Lodgepole pine, expect more wilderness and fewer crowds. Anticipate mixing your tracks with those of coyotes and rabbits and your cries of delight with goshawks, jays, chickadees, and the sound of your skis schussing on the snow. And if you’re out on a sunny day after a storm, the only thing you’ll need to dodge is snow falling from the trees. Honestly, it doesn’t get much better than that. This eTrail contains a thorough description of the resort including driving directions, mountain statistics, trail profiles, extensive lodging & dining information, travel tips, and much more.
