Just five miles from the South Carolina and Georgia borders lies this four-seasons’ retreat situated nearly one mile high in a secluded valley wedge of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Jackson County’s Sapphire Valley Ski Area is but one small component of the popular resort, offering three short slopes for its property owners, resort guests, and day skiers. It’s a comfortable environment for introducing the sport to new skiers, and a patient ski school welcomes anyone from young children to senior first-timers. Sapphire offers three short runs, including a small novice hill with an easy pitch and extra-wide shoulders. Snowboarding is also welcomed on the slopes. As expected from a small ski facility, weekend guests rarely have to wait more than 10 minutes at any time for a spot on the double chair.
