When the resort town of Virginia Beach merged with Princess Anne County in 1963 to become the City of Virginia Beach, this part of Princess Anne County became the geographic center of the city. Although best known as a resort community, Virginia Beach was historically an agricultural area. Today, the city economy includes significant commercial, agricultural, and military components. Here in the heart of the city, the agricultural heritage remains apparent, even though much of the farmland has been developed. To the south, approximately 33,000 acres of land comprise more than 150 working farms that produce everything from corn to hogs. Farmer’s Market provides spaces for many of these farmers to sell their strawberries, peaches, blackberries, cantaloupes, tomatoes, corn, and other crops. Special attractions: Wooded park, amphitheater, Farmer’s Market.
