The Virginia Marine Science Museum is one of the top-ten marine science and aquarium facilities in the country. The mission of the museum is to educate visitors about marine life in and around Virginia waters. Exhibits and aquariums feature information on and examples of the fish, birds, and plants that live in the Owls Creek Salt Marsh, on which the museum is located, and in the Atlantic Ocean, into which the creek flows.
The museum also has exhibits on freshwater coastal rivers and Chesapeake Bay. A nature trail joins the main museum building with the Owls Creek Marsh Pavilion. You may want to spend time exploring the main museum and the pavilion to learn about the living exhibit you will see outdoors. Interpretive display boards and volunteers stationed along the trail provide additional information. Special attractions: Animal habitat, 30-foot observation tower, aviary, marine science museum.
