This walk begins at the 185-acre Piedmont Park, one of Atlanta’s oldest. For more than one hundred years, Atlantans have gathered in the heart of the city for recreation, as well as for cultural and sports events. The park has served as a showplace for art, music, and politics, and as an anchor to surrounding neighborhoods. It is presently undergoing a $21.6-million face-lift. Piedmont Park is one of the most heavily visited parks in the southeast United States. Approximately two million people visit it annually. There are paved trails for walking, bicycling, roller skating, and in-line skating. A 3-mile jogging trail, a lake, picnic sites, sports fields, and thirteen tennis courts round out the recreational opportunities. Children will enjoy the unusual playground, Playscapes. Special attractions: Atlanta’s second-largest and best-known public park and an outstanding botanical garden.
