Middletown Trailside Nature Preserve is a 107-acre parkland on the west end of Middletown. The town sits in the Collayomi Valley and is so named because it is midway between Calistoga and Lower Lake. The triangular-shaped park sits at the base of 2,351-foot Sugarloaf Peak. The area has diverse habitats that range from forested woodlands to seasonal wetlands with vernal pools and grasslands. The park is a popular hiking, jogging, bird watching, and picnic area. This hike loops around the perimeter of the park and explores all of the varied environments.
