Loved this trail. I only gave it 4 stars because the trail is actually closed after you cross over the bridge at about 1 mile in.
We started at the trailhead which is at the end of the dog park on Dairy Creek Road. The hike takes you through a paved road up a hill. Beware of hornets nests in many of the trees. We also saw coyotes in the field and many wild turkeys roaming around.
The road/trail leads you alongside Dairy Creek and crosses over a very interesting bridge. At the top of the hill there is a locked gate with a noticed that the trail is closed. However, it does allow you to continue down the road as long as you are quiet as it is an outdoor school.
We choose to climb the fence and continue down the road. The road eventually takes you to Hwy 101. At that point we had to cross the highway onto the Cuesta College property and travel south in order to cross the highway again to the entrance of the El Chorro campground. Once on the campground, it was about 1/2 mile to the trailhead to complete the loop.
