One of the most beautiful spots on the Kitsap Peninsula, this county nature preserve protects almost 200 acres of stunning beach and stately forest on Hood Canal. Hike to a secluded cove teeming with seabirds and stare out at The Brothers, looming high above and directly across the canal. Explore groves of giant maples and showy rhododendrons, tunnels of evergreen huckleberry, and an old and intriguing stump house.
On good tread, follow the Main Access Trail into a pleasant mature forest crowded with thick rows of evergreen huckleberry and rhododendrons. Bear right at two junctions with side trails; these lead short distances to the gated access road (an alternative route for your return hike). The trail you are on becomes the Sawmill Trail and continues a descent, soon passing through a beautiful flat of alders garnished with bouquets of ferns.
