This trail begins just south of Buckland’s Station on US Alt. 95. The road proceeds east from the highway on a wide, maintained dirt road. Be aware that sections of this long, remote trail can be extremely muddy and impassible when wet. Any travelers who become stranded in the mud along this trail will encounter serious difficulty. Turn around at the first sign of mud. At first the trail runs through the Carson River Ranches Recreation Area, just south of Silver Springs and the Lahontan Reservoir Recreation Area. Special Attractions: Follows portions of the historic Pony Express Route. Several adjacent sites, including the Fort Churchill State Historic Park, that once served as Pony Express stations. Access to the Carson River within the Carson River Ranches Recreation Area. Cross the scenic terrain of the alkali flats within the Carson and Lahontan Valleys. Opportunity to view wild horses. Pony Express.

Ok so we have done this trip many times. Make sure if you are going on this run in the wet months you have a very high clearance ride because there will be LOTS of mud. But in the dry months its a nice little run and some cool spots to camp out at and you can still hear the gallop of the pony express riders.
