Alander is one of the most scenic summits in the Berkshires. Throw in a roaring mountain brook and attractive mixed woodland alive with birds, and you have a real winner. Trail maps are available at the trailhead kiosk and hikers are asked to sign in and out. A money pipe for donations is located to the left. Stride across the mowed field where lowbush blueberries and tiny four-petaled bluets attract pollinators in spring. Hunts Pond, with its resident Canada geese, lies serenely in a bowl to the left. Soon you’ll enter woods of eastern hemlock, beneath which Canada lilies bloom in May.
