The Ashuwillticook Rail Trail’s southernmost section is studded with biologically rich wetlands that host a panoply of birds and ends at picture-perfect Cheshire Reservoir. The moderate rating is based on distance. This 10-foot-wide, paved, universal-access trail is without doubt the most popular, if unconventional, trail in Berkshire County. Cyclists, inline skaters, walkers, joggers, and birders all share the path amicably. This portion of the rail trail is extremely popular, and the parking lot is often filled with vehicles by late morning. To have the best chance of spotting wildlife, you should arrive early in the morning.
