This modest National Park Service recreation area on Route 6 is popular— especially with history buffs—because it was the supposed place where a party from the Mayflower, just-arrived in Provincetown Harbor and desperate for fresh water, found a spring that saved them. The “site,” located near a present-day spring where the Pilgrim Spring Trail descends to meet the Head of the Meadow Bike Path, is marked by a plaque, but its historical veracity is in doubt, and the story is now considered apocryphal.
