A beautiful ride along the Carrabassett River on an easygoing rail-trail, with an option for a longer backcountry excursion through the Bigelow Preserve. If there is a prettier, more peaceful place to ride in Maine than the Carrabassett Valley, I have yet to find it. Nestled between Sugarloaf Mountain, Maine’s second highest peak, and the prominent Bigelow Range, the valley is especially striking when ablaze in fall colors. This outing travels an easygoing narrow-gauge rail-trail along the beautiful Carrabassett River, with an option to extend the trip into a backcountry excursion through the Bigelow Preserve.
