Excellent paddling on the Kennebec River at the head of Merrymeeting Bay with an excursion to beautiful Swan Island. This is one of my favorite discoveries in Maine. The paddling is relatively protected, the bay provides endless opportunities for exploration, and Swan Island is truly a nature lover’s paradise. Add to that, options for camping and biking and the real possibility of sighting prehistoric-looking sturgeons unexpectedly leaping from the water in front of your bow, and you’ll begin to understand my affinity for the place.
