Easy trails explore a glacial esker and lead to excellent views of the Back River and a salt marsh. Two walks are described here, both of which lead to fine views of the Weymouth Back River and its associated salt marshes. With a little imagination, a walk on top of the glacial esker at Great Esker Park can be compared to walking on the back of a giant snake. Formed by glacial deposits during the last Ice Age 12,000 years ago, the esker, which is 1.25 miles long, rises above the woodlands and the marsh, reaching a height of 90 feet.
