A forest of venerable white pines and hemlocks in an inland preserve on Salmon Falls River. If you’ve had enough of vacation beach sitting, this walk is shaded and cool—a good outing on hot, summery days. You’ll be walking along a wide pathway through a mature forest stand of Eastern white pine and hemlock. The magnificent Eastern white pines are the largest conifers (cone-bearing trees) in the Northeast and favor moist, porous soil. Virgin stands like this provided the British with 100-foot masts for their sailing fleets. Special Features: majestic 90- to 100-foot Eastern white pines and old, hemlocks, historical Hamilton House, and benches overlooking Salmon Falls River.
