5.5 miles of playful water and great scenery. The Suncook River drains the group of lakes just south of the Belknap Range and flows about 30 miles to the Merrimack between Concord and Manchester. It is a relatively small river, but during spring runoff it provides a great Class II run from Pittsfield to Chichester.
There is no gauge for this river, but you can get an idea of how it is running at the put-in and by taking a look at the rapids below the Websters Mill bridge. In very high water, the rapids in the 0.25 mile before this bridge are difficult Class II, with one very large wave that can swamp open boats. Scout these rapids ahead of time and do not attempt to run them if water levels are high unless you have experience in Class III water.
