Look for eagles, hawks, more eagles, ospreys, deer, foxes, and maybe a black bear at this reservoir.A 290-acre environmental preserve and an additional 2,000 acres of woods and fields surround Merrill Creek Reservoir’s 650 acres. Eagle- and hawk watching are very popular and there’s an official HawkWatch and count held during the month of November each year. The reservoir’s main purpose is water supply for the Delaware River, with water being pumped up from the river in spring when levels are high and released back to the river in summer to utility companies downstream when energy use is high. The pipeline from the river is 3.5 miles long.
