At Lake Hopatcong, enjoy paddling the largest lake in the state. Lake Musconetcong offers quiet scenery, swans, and waterfowl. Lake Hopatcong is the largest natural lake in the state, covering 2,685 acres and more than 40 miles of shoreline. Summer weekends can be a veritable zoo, with fishing tournaments, sailing regattas, and other boaters zipping around the water. Why, then, is it included in a book about quiet waters? Because I feel at some point you should paddle it simply to feel and absorb its expansiveness. Also, I understand from local paddlers that during the week, even in August, its pretty quiet, so try to visit during the week, and preferably in September or October after tourist season.
