Fork Factory Brook Reservation (the name comes from a nearby old iron mill that made pitchforks) is situated across the street from Rocky Woods Reservation, and while Rocky Woods is fairly well known, only a handful of locals even know that Fork Factory exists. On a recent spring afternoon I peeked into the parking lot at Rocky Woods and saw too many cars for my liking, so I simply hiked the trails of Fork Factory, where I didn’t see another person. These trails are not quite as scenic as Rocky Woods, but they travel along a ridge above a secluded wooded swamp where the birds and animals see few hikers. Highlights: Marsh, seldom used trails through field and forest.
