The Charles River is known as the people’s river or a “city river,” but when hiking at the Charles River Peninsula it is easy to feel like this portion of the Charles lies a hundred miles from civilization. The reservation has rolling hills that slope gently down to the river, creating a pastoral scene which seems to come right off some impressionistic painter’s easel. The fields are dotted with patches of bushes and trees where a variety of birds and animals make their home. Because of the abundance of small game, one or two red-tailed hawks always seem to be in the area. Highlights: Meadows along the Charles River.
