Wachusett Reservoir was created in 1895 to solve the water needs of the greater Boston area. Today, the reservoir still supplies water to Boston (with the help of Quabbin Reservoir), but it also serves as an important wildlife reservation. Few people realize that the thousands of acres bordering Wachusett Reservoir offer tremendous hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and wildlife watching. The deep, clear waters of Wachusett also offer the fisherman some tremendous angling opportunities for lake trout, brown trout, salmon, and some very large smallmouth bass. Highlights: Views, fishing, excellent wildlife habitat.
