The aptly named Hidden Lake sits on the south side of Albemarle Sound amid the Palmetto-Peartree Preserve. A single, well-maintained wooden camping platform is located on the eastern edge of the lake, and the campsite can only be reached via canoe or kayak. The paddle route takes you along the southern shoreline of Albemarle Sound before leading you inland along a channel for about 0.25 mile to Hidden Lake. There’s a sign at the entrance to the channel; pay attention, or you could miss the turnoff. For maps and detailed information on the area, camping, and the paddle trail, visit the websites listed.
