You’re in for a big surprise. When you hear the term dispersed camping in the Croatan, it usually refers to an open field with a picnic table here or a fire ring there. Not at Long Point. Here you have two perfectly groomed campsites that look as though they were plucked right out of the Neuse River Campground and placed alongside a wide and wonderful portion of the White Oak River. Like night and day, the river transforms from the swampland you see at Dixon Fields to the fresh, clean-cut banks that line the river at Long Point. This area is part of the White Oak River Paddle Trail, and there’s a paddle trail map at the entrance and a canoe/kayak launch right next to the campsites.
