Gravel roads “pave” the way through this surprisingly pleasant county park. With wooded, rolling hill terrain and lakeside campsites, this is a real treat. A hiking trail passes just below the campsites, which are lined up right next to one another, so they lack privacy. But the fabulous view of the lake below balances it out. They have playgrounds, picnic shelters, an amphitheater, horseshoe pits, and an open field for tossing a Frisbee or a ball. There’s nearly 6 miles of hiking trails, and the park also offers canoe and kayak rentals. There’s a large boat ramp just down the road, so if you have a motorized boat, you can put in and really explore the Mayo Creek and Reservoir to the fullest.
